From Cassandra's site: The Apache Cassandra Project develops a highly scalable second-generation distributed database, bringing together Dynamo's fully distributed design and Bigtable's ColumnFamily-based data model. It starts with a cover-up and one clue, just one, a mere snippet of information. To start us off with The Cassandra Project by Jack McDevitt and Mike Resnick (Ace, 2012), I need quickly to remind you about Cassandra. It features the same protagonist and concept as his new novel with Mike Resnick by the same title. Now move the extracted cassandra project move to the bin folder inside it (in my case /opt/cassandra/bin) and type the command ./cassandra -f. So in 2020, even if none of The Cassandra Project's events have occurred in reality, I still expect to be reading and enjoying the book on which both authors have done a great job, and I can't say fairer than that. The Cassandra project was started by Facebook in 2007 to scale their internal applications, particularly Inbox Search. The Cassandra Project, a collaboration with Mike Resnick, came out in November 2012. Well the company was founded by developers who worked on Cassandra while at Rackspace. Rackspace has been the primary driver of Cassandra development recently, employing (until I left) the three most active committers on the project. The "what if" asked by Jack McDevitt and Mike Resnick lifts off higher than the near future mystery they actually wrote. Jack McDevitt wrote a story for Lightspeed Magazine in 2010 titled 'The Cassandra Project'. You may remember all that kerfuffle over Troy when that Helen babe was abducted. The book entitled The Cassandra Project is centered around a mystery surrounding the Apollo program which occurred in the United States in the late sixties and early seventies. If there was ever a book that could have been better, The Cassandra Project fits. One of the founders, Jonathan Ellis, is currently the project chair of the Cassandra project at Apache. McDevitt claims it reveals the truth behind the Watergate break-in. 'The Cassandra Project' by Jack McDevitt and Mike Resnick reads like a Jack McDevitt novel.
